Our ‘firm and strong’ MCMs

WHEN the prime minister’s wife, Juliet Holness, described her hubby as “tight and firm” and “sexy cyaan done” at a political meeting recently, she sent a lot of tongues wagging. She opened up a whole discussion on men’s bodies, and whether we hold our men to the same standards of physical health and beauty to which they often hold us.

We are not satisfied when we eat right, hit the gym and do our squats, only to go home to “sleepy sleepy” men. We, too, love when our men can “run fi the whole day with probably about three to four hours of sleep”, and while Mrs Holness’ open praise of her man’s “tight and firm” body may just have been a strategic political move, we don’t blame her. We not only love when our men have admirable qualities and morals, but we also love when they look good. So in true Man Crush Monday spirit, and in celebration of International Men’s Day tomorrow, we are highlighting some of our local “firm and strong” men who are leading by example.

Major Basil Jarrett

What’s hotter than a man in uniform? A handsome, smart and confident man in uniform, of course! Major Basil Jarrett, civil military cooperation and media affairs officer at the Jamaica Defence Force is both eye candy and brain food, so he had to head our list. We definitely love a strong man who uses his strength for good, which is exactly what the Jamaica College ‘young boy’ does.

Asafa Powell

Although several dreams were crushed when Alyshia scratched his name off the bachelors’ list back in February, we can’t help but crush on the Sub-10 King from afar. If we thought he was hot when he blazed up tracks across the world in Jamaica’s colours, imagine how the flames are fiery as we watch him be a doting husband and father, while still remaining in top form.

Konshens

This is a man who has been hot, and remains hot, for over 10 years in the rapidly evolving dancehall space. With his sharp, clean image and discography of female-centred songs, Konshens has held the keys to many hearts from the days of ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, and despite being cuffed, he still isn’t letting go. Who wouldn’t admire a man you know is concerned about your mental health and well-being, and is a loving father, but still will tell you when to ‘Siddung’ and is not afraid to ‘Bruk off yuh Back’?

Alando Terrelonge

Watching the state minister being super dad and speaking Spanish to his sons on Instagram is already muy caliente, but watching him in his well-fitted suits engaging in matters of national importance for our youth is fuego! His loving and caring nature is infectious, yet he is firm and strong when he needs to be. This is exactly what we love to see in our men.

Dr Christopher Tufton

Talk about men leading by example! Our ‘5K minister’ of health and wellness Dr Chris Tufton is one healthy male specimen. We know for a fact this one is not sleepy-sleepy, because he is up before the crack of dawn to compete in every 5K that is held on local soil, to walk the hills and valleys of west central St Catherine, to destroy mosquito breeding sites, or just to get his daily cardio in. And we definitely see the results in his tailored suits and activewear. #TuftonMoves.

Popcaan

Although he isn’t very strapping in stature, Popcaan is still the only man many women want. What we admire most about Poppy is his charming and jovial personality, which defies the misconception that men must always be serious to be taken seriously. The Unruly Boss has fun while making international moves and pushing music for every audience. Besides, he has a song called “Firm and Strong”. What more do we need?

Chris Gayle

We can think of 333 reasons why we crush on Chris Gayle heavily, but we’ll just give a few. As one of the greatest Twenty20 cricket batsmen of all time, we love how great he is at what he does. We love, too, that he knows how to have fun and enjoy the fruits of his labour, while maintaining his signature Gayle suave. Girl, have you seen the way he smiles in all his pictures? Whew!

Dr Alfred Dawes

With a physique like his, and the medical know-how to boot, we can’t help but open up to general, laparoscopic and weight-loss surgeon Dr Alfred Dawes. This hot doc is not only serious about his own health, but is passionate about allowing others to live their best lives in their best bodies, whether they need medical assistance or not.

Dexta Daps

Let’s just say we know exactly what not to wear when we are going to an event that features this artiste. Dexta Daps is known for unleashing the sensual side of women wherever he goes, and is the guilty pleasure on the playlist of many married women who long for a bit of fun. With his chiselled body and soul piercing eyes, it’s no wonder that wherever he performs women can’t help but bring it to the owner.
