What your car tells him about you

What your car tells him about you

BY PENDA HONEYGHAN

EVERY car tells a story, or at least this is what some people believe. It’s not just about how many miles it has travelled or the type of care it has received, but according to some folks it can give more than just a glimpse of the kind of person who owns it.

So what does a woman’s car say about her? A few men share their perceptions.

The size

Mark, 41, investment banker:

Generally, I think women get cars they like and can manage. Sometimes, though, it says more. For example, a woman driving an SUV either has money, or is a partner, or in a managerial or senior position at work with perks.

Marlon, 38, truck driver:

Women who drive smaller vehicles without any accessories are not pretentious, they just want to have something to move around in that is reliable. Sometimes it’s also what a woman can afford and more than likely she has only one child.

Roshane, 26, soldier/auto mechanic:

If a woman chooses a big car it says to me that she likes comfort with a little speed. If she chooses a small car she is thinking economically — she just wants to know that she can move around and it won’t cost much in terms of fuel.

Travis, 40, police officer:

A woman with a small vehicle with accessories cares about being “cute” on the road.

The condition

Harry, 65, retired:

A woman driving an old vehicle cares zero about people. The vehicle is likely a hand-me-down from daddy/uncle and she is likely to have just started to work.

Charlie, 55, security guard:

A woman driving an older car, I would say, doesn’t really watch face. She also isn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty and usually knows a thing or two about vehicles just in case the vehicle fails her.

Cleanliness

Johnoy, 33, call centre agent:

If I see a woman with a dirty car, that woman is an unclean woman. The same way she keeps her car is the same way she keeps her yard. Having many things in the car does not mean that you cannot be tidy. And I am speaking from experience.

Shawn, 29, mechanic:

If a woman’s car (the exterior) is dirty I would say that either she’s mean and probably doesn’t want to get it washed more than once for the week, or she doesn’t have a man around because I usually take care of that aspect of car care and most men will do that for their bonafide women and their wives.

Car colour and type

Troy, 40, soldier:

A woman who drives a bright-coloured car like red, generally likes attention. It says that she is fun and outgoing and festive — she likes to be seen and there is nothing wrong with that. If I see a woman in a silver car and I am to judge I would say that she is a woman with good taste. So more like a high-class woman who is sure of herself and does not need to call attention to herself to be seen. I would say the same for grey. Black, on the other hand, is closer to silver in the sense that it is a colour of sophistication.

Marshy, 40, farmer:

A woman driving a Noah/small bus is either a JUTA driver, has several kids and/or owns a small business. As it relates to the colour, I would say soft, traditional colours like grey, white and silver say that a woman is honest, easy-going, professional, and so on. Loud colours like the reds, oranges and bright blues say that a woman is extra or is looking for attention. And a black car is driven by a woman who is full of class.

Functionality

Clement, 40, construction worker:

Women like comfort and so if the things on her car are not working — like the windows are jacked up, the AC is barely firing and it gives off a foul odour — the car is poorly maintained and she either can’t afford the repairs, doesn’t have a man to handle it, or is just mean.

Calmar, 30, engineer:

A woman driving a nice car could mean she likes the car, this is what she wants, and there is nothing more to it. However, most women who buy nice cars do so to show their social status. Most times a woman driving a nice car means that she is educated and is in a good job or she has a dude with some money. A small car says young professional who just needs to get around. An older car — she doesn’t really care about people’s opinions, she just wants to get to where she needs to. She is a go-getter and your opinion of her carries little value in her eyes.
