Fenugreek: For hair, skin and more
FENUGREEK, also known as methi, is an herb, similar to clover, that has a range of health and beauty benefits. It’s one of the herbs people are clocking in on recently, and its oil, extract, and powder should be an addition to your beauty stockpile.
Aesthetician Nicola Meredith said fenugreek has antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe the scalp and reduce dandruff, for healthy hair.
“It also promotes hair growth, and the seeds are rich in proteins and nicotinic acid, which strengthen the roots and stimulate hair growth,” she said.
“Fenugreek also acts as a natural conditioner, making hair softer and more manageable.”
Here are some other uses for fenugreek, according to Meredith:
Skin
Fenugreek has antibacterial properties which can help in treating acne and reducing blemishes. The seeds also contain antioxidants, which can reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Digestion
Fenugreek seeds are high in fibre, which helps with digestion, reduces bloating, and alleviates constipation. It also helps those with acid reflux or heartburn.
Blood sugar
Fenugreek seeds contain soluble fibre, which can slow down the absorption of sugars and improve insulin sensitivity, helping people with diabetes.
Weight management
The high fibre content can make you feel fuller for longer, potentially aiding in weight management.
Meredith said fenugreek is widely available in various forms, and many establishments carry fenugreek seeds and dried leaves, and sometimes supplements or powders.
