French striker Kylian Mbappé has issued a blistering response to reported racist comments attributed to a Paraguayan senator in online reports.

“Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition,” Mbappé shared on X on Monday.

The comments followed online reports of racist statements about Mbappé shared by an X account attributed to Amarilla (@CelesteSenadora).

One post on the account read: “Bruto didn’t even learn to write; instead of mother’s milk, he sucked on coconuts, and the most educated thing he heard were chimpanzees.”

The comments were shared on Saturday following France’s 1-0 win over Paraguay in their World Cup Round of 16 match.

Other posts on the page read: “Colonised Cameroonian, pretending hard to be French, resentful, newly rich, arrogant, and ugly. He was nervous and scared to death the whole match, like his entire team; they couldn’t even score a goal, they won by a fluke.”

Mbappé was born in Paris, France, to a father of Cameroonian heritage.

The footballer, in his response, chided the senator for the comments, which he said have now overshadowed Paraguay’s World Cup journey.

“Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country,” he said.

“I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world,” Mbappé concluded.
