D’Angel ready for Sting stage
Dancehall artiste D’Angel is over the moon as she prepares to return to the Sting stage on Boxing Day at Jamworld in Portmore, St Catherine, after a decade.
“It always feels good to perform… everything is within God’s timing. It’s not that I wasn’t fitting for Reggae Sting, or I never had the catalogue, but things happen and sometimes life challenges you, and it’s actually how you withstand — and I withstood,” the entertainer, whose real name is Michelle Downer, told the Jamaica Observer.
The line-up also includes Bounty Killer, Tanya Stephens, Anthony B, Spragga Benz, Turbulence, Macka Diamond, Capleton, Fantan Mojah, Bugle, Tommy Lee Sparta, Pablo YG, Malie Donn, and I Waata.
“Patrons can expect a bit of everything; dancehall, reggae, and ‘War Angel’ — the hard core side of me… yuh have all kinds of different angels enuh. Mi a one of God war angels,” she said.
Adding that she’s pulling out all the stops for a memorable set, D’Angel also explained the importance of showing up in an eye-catching ensemble.
“Preparations have been going well. My designer, Melissa Moses, is creating an over-the-top look for me because you know I’m big on fashion and if I don’t look good, I don’t perform good… everything is being checked ’cause I want to make sure that everything goes smooth for this staging of D’Angel,” she said.
D’Angel started out as a model with the popular Miguel Models in the 1990s. She later auditioned for a group called LOY, which was managed by Horatio Hamilton, music and events promoter for the Sashi series.
Several weeks ago, she released the track War Angel, which has been making rounds on social media.
The entertainer said she is happy about its success, but noted that the song is not indicative of any interest to clash with any other artiste on the show, or otherwise.
“The reception for the track has been crazy. It’s that season where people [are] having fun in entertainment culture. I’m not entertaining anything else apart from me being on stage. No one else is invited on my stage. I already highlighted who I wanted to share my stage with. So, if either party doesn’t come on my stage, anybody else who comes is a breach of my contract, and I’m sure that won’t happen,” she said.
