‘Grass Roots’s’ Xmas edition was a hit
THE Christmas edition of Grass Roots and Blankets, featuring the boy band 8 and friends, provided quality entertainment to those in attendance at last Sunday’s staging.
Held on the lawns of 14 University Crescent in St Andrew, the live performance showcase also featured up-and-coming acts, singers Lex MD and Joseph Barrett.
“The vibe was awesome, the energy was great, and the people were definitely vibing to the songs. It was because of the crowd’s reaction why I sang the way I did. I pretty much fed off their energy,” Lex MD told the Jamaica Observer shortly after his performance.
During his set Lex MD performed an original song titled Grooving, as well as Smile by Chronixx, Bob Marley’s Turn Your Lights Down Low, and Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together.
Barrett was just as excited to be on the line-up.
“The crowd was very receptive and the vibe was good. It was a pleasure performing here tonight,” he said.
His decorated performance included Tori Kelly’s Beautiful Things, John Legend’s All of Me, and Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song.
As the evening wound down the band 8 took to the stage and delivered a workmanlike performance. Barrett and Lex MD later joined them.
“We took a lot of time preparing for the show with rehearsals. We did everything to make this worthwhile and we are just glad it went well,” said keyboardist Moses Estick.
“It’s important to feed off the crowd when you are performing. The crowd giving us that reach shows that what we’re doing is working and it’s coming from the heart,” he continued.
Boy band 8 performed 24 songs which had patrons grooving from start to finish. Earth Wind and Fire’s Let’s Groove was a crowd favourite, so too were interpretations of Kool and the Gang’s Get Down on It, Beres Hammond’s No Disturb Sign, Pressure Buss Pipe’s Love and Affection, Half Pint’s Substitute Lover, Romain Virgo’s Beautiful, and Beres Hamond’s Can You Play Some More featuring saxophonist Verlando Small.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and This Christmas were also thrown in for good measure.
The Grass Roots and Blankets live concert series returns in the new year.
