High-energy ‘I Love Soca’
The 2023 Easter weekend ended on a high with “I Love Soca” at UWI Bowl on the Mona Campus of The University of the West Indies, featuring Trinidadian artiste headliner Olatunjia
The event featured a line-up of talented deejays and artistes, among them Laa Lee, Brush 1 The Road Marshall, and Fyahman.
Reggae and dancehall have always been an integral part of Jamaican culture, and this I Love Soca event seemed to aim to showcase the best of these genres.
I Love Soca delivered on the promise to be a showcase of Jamaica’s rich musical heritage and a celebration of its vibrant and diverse culture.
The night kicked off with Trinidadian artist Olatunji, who got the crowd moving with his 2023 Trinidadian Carnival hit song Engine Room. The energy was electric as he danced across the stage, pumping up the crowd and getting them in the mood for a night of non-stop soca.
Olatunji then introduced Jamaican dancehall artiste LaaLee, who brought the heat with his hit song Bird, which took it to the next level with his energy and dance moves.
Brush 1 The Road Marshall then took the controls and he did not disappoint with Elephant Man’s remix of Gloria Estefan’s 1984 classic Conga. The entire crowd was jumping and swaying to the music, and the atmosphere.
The night ended with Fyahman, the vibes master, who delivered a series of high-energy dances that had the whole crowd moving.
I Love Soca at the UWI Bowl was a massive success. The performers were top-notch and the crowd was fully engaged from start to finish.
One patron, for he part, thought it, “The perfect way to kick off Carnival in 2023… can’t wait for next year.”
