POPULAR disc jockey DJ Romziinova recently completed a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance, with honours, from The University of the West Indies’ Mona campus in St Andrew.

The course of study was part-time for five years.

Romziinova, who works full-time as a data analyst with the Bank of Jamaica, is happy with his achievement.

“I was blessed with an opportunity to work at the Bank of Jamaica as an analyst. So, in order to move up the ranks within the organisation I had to acquire the necessary qualifications to do so,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

DJ Romziinova is known throughout party circles, having played at several events. His most recent gigs included the carnival road march (on the Coca Cola Truck), Strictly Bubbling, and Zimi Seh Riva.

He explained how he managed the full-time job with his studies as well as playing at events.

“Time management is key and fundamental when I am juggling school and being a DJ. Striking the balance between the two was something I paid special attention to. I created schedules and a vision board to keep updated with my tasks and assignments that I had to get done. Getting enough rest and getting proper nourishment is also a key factor,” he said.

DJ Romziinova said he is focused on getting enrolled for his master’s degree.

“The next move for Romziinova is perfecting my craft and practising a lot more, because I am never content with where I am. I am nowhere close to where I need to be so practising and remaining focused is on the table right now. Additionally, I am working to increase my brand awareness within the industry, amongst other things. I am also in the process of starting my masters programme [corporate finance] in January next year,” he said.

On the musical side, DJ Romziinova is working on a mixtape to be released next month.

Born Romari Clarke, the 26-year-old shared how he got into music.

“My love for music started in the church. I used to sing in the choir, DJ, play instruments etc. So, from a tender age my love and involvement in music was strong and as I grew older, I discovered that I had the talent and the confidence to play music and provide experiences for lovers of music,” he said.

He continued, “I bring something different — not the everyday music being played on the radio and at other parties. I try to introduce new sounds every time I play somewhere. I do this to highlight the major talents that aren’t being recognised enough in the musical space.”
