FORMER Digicel Rising Stars winner Shuga takes over the number one spot on the Foundation Radio Network (New York) Reggae chart with Dear Mr. Government.

Dear Mr. Government is a call from the ghetto to the Government to try to make the lives of those living in the ghettos better.

The song — written by Shuga (real name Mitsy Campbell) — was produced by Donovan Germain for Penthouse Records. Nicole Burt-Bolt and Donald Anderson provide backing vocals on the track.

Originally from Montego Bay, St James, Shuga won the Digicel Rising Stars competition in 2009. Among her previous releases are Phenomenal Woman, One People, and Talk About.

On the streaming- and sales-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers remain at number one for a 124th week with Legend, while Shaggy stays put at number two with Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection.

Stick Figure’s World on Fire bolts four places to number three, while UB40’s Greatest Hits is steady at four.

Sean Paul pulls a triple spin with three entries on this week’s tally. He re-enters at number five with The Trinity and inches up to six with the Grammy-winning Dutty Rock. Mad Love: The Prequel hops from 10 to nine.

Koffee’s Gifted backtracks from six to seven, while Set in Stone by Stick Figure re-enters at eight. The California-based reggae outfit led by Scott Woodruff tumbles from three to 10 with Fire and Stone: Prince Fatty presents Stick Figure.

This week we rewind to four years ago, and on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart dated May 26, 2018 the number one album was 44/876 by Sting and Shaggy.

Holding down the number two spot was Stony Hill, the Grammy-winning title from Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, while Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica was number four.

Poetry in Motion by SOJA was five, Chronixx’s Chronology was six, and Lovesick by Romain Virgo had fallen from one to 10.
