My first win is for grand-dad Harry — trainer Peter John Parsard

Newly licensed trainer Peter-John Parsard, who saddled his first professional winner with Geolithic on Sunday, August 20, 2023, dedicated his accomplishment to his grandfather and former conditioner Harry Parsard (deceased).

Geolithic was successful in a native-bred three-year-old (non-winners of two) and an imported three-year-old and upwards (maidens) at a mile (1,600m).

Three-year-old American-bred bay filly Geolithic (Neolithic – Queen G) dictated the pace early on and moved away from rivals down the backstretch to win comfortably by an impressive 15 ½ lengths.

“I am feeling very good about this win,” Parsard told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.

As expected, trainer Peter-John Parsard (right) is given the ‘golden shower’ by his batchmate Captain Marlon Brown, after saddling his first career winner with Geolithic..

“First of all, I have to dedicate this win to my grandfather Harry Parsard as he was the first person that I was an assistant with, he passed a couple of years ago and I really miss him and so this one is definitely for him.

“I have been dreaming of this day from the first day I visited the racetrack. I have been around some really good horses and so I am glad to finally get one across the board in my name.

“I have grown up in the sport. I fell in love with horses from the first time I saw them and I knew that I would be around them from those days and so it was a lifetime of dedication leading up to this,” said Parsard, who is the son of prominent trainer Ian.

Ridden by current leading jockey Reyan Lewis, Geolithic broke out strongly at the start of the race and contested the early lead with Blinkin Light (Shane Richardson). Geolithic took full control of the contest leaving the six-furlong (1,200m) mark and never looked back.

US-bred filly Geolithic miles away from rivals with Reyan Lewis in the saddle.

Goelithic kept blazing the path and extended her lead over Norblar (Dane Dawkins) and From Sheer To Ben as both were under strong handling to keep up with the leader navigating the half-mile (800m) turn.

Geolithic took a commanding lead into the lane and went on to release the maiden tag ahead of Norblar and From Sheer To Ben. The winning time for the race was 1:40.2 backed by splits of 23.4 x 46.4 x 1:13.1.

“She [Geolithic] was prepared very good for the race as she was very green in her first two races. We knew that there were no real speed in this race and I think Jason [Reyan Lewis] rode a brilliant race to win.

“I was a little more cautious trying to tell him to don’t quite go through to the lead as fast as he might want to but he rode a brilliant race. He took the race as it came and Geolithic ran very, very well for him and so I am very happy.

“Well, we have a lot of horses running over the next three weeks and so hopefully we can get the job done a couple more times,” Parsard ended.
