Jamaican woman charged with voting illegally in US general election
WASHINGTON, United States (CMC)—United States authorities on Monday named a Jamaican woman among 16 individuals in connection with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election crimes across the country.
The Justice Department said Staciann Pollion Davis, 42, a lawful permanent resident, had been charged by criminal complaint with voting as an alien.
It said Davis allegedly voted in the November 2024 general election in Clarke County, Alabama, despite not being a United States citizen.
The Justice Department said a complaint, indictment, and information merely contain accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
“The cases include voting by aliens in federal elections, false claims of US citizenship in order to register to vote or to vote, voting on behalf of the deceased, voting multiple times in the same election, false statements on citizenship applications, and unlawful procurement of citizenship,” the Justice Department said.
According to the Justice Department, the other individuals detained and charged came from Cuba, France, Pakistan, Portugal, Peru, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Canada.
The Justice Department said the crimes were committed in the Southern District of Alabama, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Northern District of Alabama, Western District of Missouri, District of Idaho, District of New Jersey and the District of Hawaii.
