Alleged mentally ill man charged with murder and wounding in St Elizabeth

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— A man has been charged with murder and wounding with intent after an incident at Gutters in St Elizabeth on Saturday, October 22.

Charged is Craig Wright, otherwise called ‘Six-Pack’, a 41-year-old labourer of Mount Pelier District in Manchester.

The deceased man has been identified as Gary Harriott, otherwise called ‘Titus’, a 32-year-old labourer of Gutters district in the parish.

Reports from the Black River Police are that about 1:30 pm, Harriott saw Wright, who is said to be mentally challenged, chop a man with a machete. Harriott intervened and subsequently fell to the ground and hit his head.

Wright then allegedly used a piece of iron to hit Harriott on his head. Harriott, the other injured man, and Wright — who was allegedly chopped and injured by residents — were assisted to hospital.

On Sunday, October 23, Harriott succumbed to his injuries.

Wright was later charged.
