Clarendon College beat STETHS in d’Cup Round of 16
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— Defending champions Clarendon College handed St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) their first loss of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition, edging them 1-0 in their Round of 16 game played at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz on Wednesday.
This was Clarendon College’s 12th consecutive win this season as they took control of Group 1 and needed only a draw in their final group game on Saturday to win the group.
Devonte Hodges’ second half header was the difference between the two teams that had won their first games.
Clarendon College had to play the final four minutes of regulation plus time added after Nahshon Bolt-Barrett was sent off late in the game after being issued a second yellow card.
Meanwhile, BB Coke High also won back -to- back games in the round when they snapped Manchester High’s perfect win record with a 4-2 beating as they took control of Group 2.
Zoreck Grant scored a double to lead BB Coke, while Semar Williams and Devonte Blake got the others as they led Manchester High 3-1 at half time.
Glenmuir High and Garvey Maceo rebounded from their draw on Saturday to beat Port Antonio High 5-0 and Frome Technical 1-0.
Kyle Gordon and Deandre Johnson both scored braces for Glenmuir High and Orel Miller got the other in their big 5-0 win over Port Antonio as they took the lead in Group 4, on goal-difference over Garvey Maceo, who edged Frome Technical 1-0.
Both Glenmuir High and Garvey Maceo are on four points, one more than Frome Technical.
Dinthill Tech are the leaders in Group 3 after edging Christiana High 1-0, while Cornwall College moved ahead of STETHS into second place in Group 1 after blanking Mile Gully High 2-0 with goals from Braxton Richards and Michael Balfour, who was scoring his first goal at this level.
