Happy Grove High advance to d’Cup second round

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Happy Grove High came from two goals down to beat Port Antonio High 3-2 on Tuesday, their fourth straight victory in Zone N which made them the second school to book a spot in the second round of this year's ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition.

Happy Grove, who had won the first round game against Port Antonio 5-0, are on 12 points and cannot finish outside the top two in the group. They join Morant Bay High, who booked their spot from Zone K last week, in the second round.

Port Antonio High led 2-0 at half time with both goals from Kerone George, in the 34th minute and time added on at the end of the first half. But Happy Grove responded with second half goals from Sean Williams in the 58th minute, Shevon Miller in the 67th minute and Bonny Chisholm in the 72nd minute.

Frome Technical beat Green Island High for the second time in four days, winning 6-1 in the second game after beating them 6-0 on Saturday as they joined Rusea’s High on 15 points, both a point away from advancing to the second round.

Stevaughn Spence scored a double for Frome Tech while Jovauni Williams, Dwayne Watt, Kevin Lawrence and Demar Williams all scored one each.

Braxton Richards scored his first goal of the season as Cornwall College came from a goal down at half time to earn a 1-1 draw against Irwin High in their return round Zone A game. Leo Campbell scored in his third straight game to give Irwin the lead in the 40th minute, but Richards fired home in the 52nd minute to share the points after the teams had played out a 0-0 first round draw.

Cornwall College lead the zone with 17 points, two more than Irwin High while St James High are third after coming from a goal down to beat Spot Valley High 2-1 at Jarrett Park, avenging their first round loss.

Green Pond scored their first win of the season, blanking Maldon High 3-0 to join Spot Valley High on four points.
