Miguel Wealthy warns about domestic violence with ‘Mad Man’

A famous poet once wrote ‘love that is not madness is not love’. However, Hewitt Entertainment recording artiste Miguel Wealthy believes that passion and love need to be tempered, and that is why he is tackling the domestic violence problem in Jamaica with a well-written, introspective single called ‘Mad Man’.

The song sets out the different scenarios which often may come up in struggling relationships when men determine that they can’t let a woman go, conflicts ensue and often reach a violent conclusion with an explosion in national headlines and online vlogs.

“A lot of the killings and violence that happen here is just sheer madness bredda,” Miguel Wealthy said.

“I don’t condone domestic violence and there must be a better way to solve interpersonal conflicts. Too often, you see the same scenario of toxic relationships where no one intervenes to be a voice of reason to stop these things before they escalate. We need to take a personal look at ourselves and nation, some of the man dem a confuse love with ownership, dem a mad man,” he added.

He plans to shoot a video for the Chase Mills Records-produced song in April.

It has been a busy year for Miguel Wealthy, who is from May Pen, Clarendon with the release of songs such as Mansa Musa, Mek Wi Dance and Every Gal Inna the Business.

“Fans can look out for videos from my new EP, Mental Orgasm, with a few collaborations which will be released on April 20th. My team will also be doing a lot of promotions so that my music can be heard globally,” he said.

Miguel Wealthy grew up in Clarendon with his parents and his siblings. He attended Vere Technical High School, balancing schoolwork and his love for music. At 17 his father entrusted him with the responsibility of managing his transportation company, but music remained his first love. He began to pursue music, using the stage name Excellence.

In 2005 he released his first single Love Mi Wen Mi Dirty, produced by Platinum Records in Guyana, which led him to tour within the Caribbean, Europe and the US. In 2012 he changed his name to Miguel Wealthy and he hasn’t looked back since.

“I want to be on all the major shows this Summer, 2023 is my breakthrough year,” said the artiste, who is managed by Latoya Hewitt of Hewitt Entertainment.
