Seaforth and WiFi seek wins in JFF Championships play-off
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Seaforth SC and WiFi United will put winning records on the line Saturday when the Jamaica Football Federation Championships (formerly Tier II) play-offs continues with five games.
Twelve teams separated in four regional groups are taking part in the play-offs to fill three spots in the JFF Championships which are set to get underway later in the season.
The teams will be seeking to replace Treasure Beach and Lime Hall Academy who earned promotion to the Jamaica Premier League as well as Albion Mountain who were kicked out of the competition after they failed to show up for a scheduled game.
Seaforth SC will take on March Garvey United at the Bramwell Clarke Complex and will be seeking a second win after beating them 3-1 in their first meeting.
The teams are the only two in Group A and will meet three times to decide the group winners and semi-final qualifiers.
WiFi United will take on Grays Inn SC in a Group B game at the St Mary’s Sports Complex and will be going after a second win after beating Madras FC of St Ann 2-0 in their first game.
Gray’s Inn had earned a point from their 1-1 draw against Madras in the second round and a win Saturday would see them take over the lead.
Cross United and Villa United will meet in a Group C game in Palmer’s Cross, Clarendon, both seeing their first points of the competition after losing to leaders St Bess United.
Both Cross United and Villa United lost by similar 2-1 scorelines to St Bess United of St Elizabeth.
Zone D leaders Duanvale FC and Petersfield FC, both on four points, will hope to stay ahead when they face last placed Sandy Bay United and Reggae Youths respectively.
Reggae Youths, who rebounded from their first round loss to Duanvale to beat Sandy Bay United 6-0, are however expected to pose a challenge for Petersfield FC who have managed just two goals so far. They have scored eight goals and will be expected to take the fight to the home team.
Duanvale could be clear leaders of the group after the round as they are expected to beat Sandy Bay who have conceded seven goals and are yet to score their first.
