Women 60m rescheduled as two-section final after competitors run wrong distance at Gibson/McCook Relays
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Organisers of the Gibson/McCook Relays have announced that due to the competitors running 70m instead of the scheduled 60m Women Open, in the first of three heats, the event will be run as a two-section final at the at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The event, which was scheduled for 4:20 pm, saw Ramona Burchell of SprintTec Track Club, Tia Clayton of MVP, Kemba Nelson of Elite Performance, Kasheika Cameron, Shenike Malcolm, also of MVP and Jodean Williams of Racers Track Club facing the starter for the wrong event.
However, the other two heats were competed at 60m after officials readjusted the starting distance. As a result, they made the decision to run the event as a two-section final, with the fastest time emerging as the winner.
In addition, the winner of the final is set to pocket US$10,000 ($1.5 million). However, all eight finalists will collect cash prizes.
The final of the 60m Women Open will take place at 6:37 pm.
