Days after Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie appealed to officials in Portland to identify land to construct a drop-in centre for homeless people, a member of that community was found fatally shot in the parish on Tuesday.
The body of the man, who has been identified as Andre Weston of no fixed address, was found at the Folly Oval about 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
It has been reported that Weston, who was mentally ill, was murdered between last Sunday and Tuesday.
According to the police, Weston was last seen alive about 3:00 pm on Sunday at the Port Antonio Cemetery.
On Tuesday people were playing football at Folly Oval and smelled a foul odour. They went to investigate and discovered Weston's lifeless body in a shed and alerted the police.
When they arrived the police found the body dressed in a white merino, black pants and white socks with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the torso and head.
Last year two homeless people were murdered in Portland.
