CALIFORNIA, United States ­— A Jamaican delegation, supported by the US Embassy, left the island on Sunday to participate in the largest renewable energy event in North America called RE+.

The event, which was formerly referred to as Solar Power International, will run from September 19 to September 22.

It is expected to provide an opportunity for key decision makers in the green energy sector to learn about the latest US technologies and innovations in renewable energy management, storage solutions, and regulatory changes needed to encourage the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.

"Over the next year Jamaican renewable energy leadership will be making decisions on the type of technology the country will need to reach its ambitious renewable energy goals," the US Embassy said in a release.

"This offers the United States a unique opportunity to facilitate business to business contacts, educate and influence Jamaican decision makers on best practices and technologies to deploy and at the same time reach out to the Jamaican public via participating Jamaican journalist to share information on new innovations in renewable energy," the US Embassy added.

At the conference, Jamaican representatives are expected to learn trends in electric vehicle charging stations, energy efficiency, energy storage, micro-grids and other clean energy solutions.

"The goal of the event is to help Jamaican companies and Government agencies find US technology solutions to provide cleaner, more reliable, and more affordable energy to Jamaican individuals and businesses," the US Embassy said.

The multi-day event boasts over 19,000 professionals from all segments of the industry, over 700 exhibitors, and 110 countries.
