MONTEGO BAY, St James — The second of two brothers has been hauled before the court in connection with a June 2 triple murder in Roehampton, St James.

Twenty-eight-year-old Wesley Reid made his first appearance in the parish court on Wednesday, a week after his sibling first appeared. Wesley Reid was granted bail in the sum of $1 million after his lawyer made an application.

He has been charged with three counts of murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

He is jointly charged with his brother Knitson Reid who has been remanded in custody until September 29.

The brothers have been charged in connection with an incident that took place at a section of the Roehampton community known as Mars, off Gaza Lane. It resulted in the deaths of three cousins — 38-year-old supermarket worker Conroy “Beenie” Lawrence, shopkeeper Chevon “Kong” Gordon, and 50-year-old Carleslie “Shotta” Morris.

During Wednesday’s hearing the court was informed that an identification parade for the defendant had not taken place. It was also revealed that the post-mortem report, ballistic report, and scene of crime statement remained outstanding.

Meanwhile Reid’s attorney, Henry McCurdy, argued that his client was not present at the scene when the crime was committed and that he kept asking why he had been charged.

“There is no way that the Crown can prove a case against my client,” McCurdy argued.

Presiding Judge Sasha-Marie Smith-Ashley subsequently offered Wesley Reid bail on condition that he reports to a specific police station on fixed days each week and resides at a specified address in the parish. He was also forbidden from visiting Roehampton or Anchovy, or communicating with the civilian witnesses.

Additionally, he must surrender his travel documents, and a stop order will be issued at all ports to prevent him from leaving the country.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on September 29, when he will be joined by his brother. Police say about 9:20 pm residents reportedly heard explosions and alerted them.

Upon their arrival Gordon and Lawrence were seen laying beside a shop with chop wounds to their heads while Morris was seen nearby with gunshot wounds.
