‘Teacher’ Hyde takes charge of Dunbeholden
Veteran football tactician Lenworth “Teacher” Hyde has taken over the reins as the head coach of Jamaica Premier League outfit Dunbeholden for the upcoming season.
Hyde, who has won the premier league three times as a coach, replaces Harold Thomas who left the club at the end of last season.
Roger Simmonds, the general manager of St Catherine-based Dunbeholden, told the Jamaica Observer they are looking forward to a very successful partnership with him.
“We appointed him because we believe that he is a serial winner with his exploits at Clarendon College, and he is also a three-time premier league champion coach,” he said.
“He has the experience and he has the skills and talent to take us to the next level and so we have no issues welcoming him on board,” Simmonds continued.
Hyde’s previous coaching stint in local top-flight club football was with Chapelton Maroons last season before there was a parting of ways in January of this year.
Hyde, an outstanding former schoolboy and national footballer, won the Premier League as head coach of Hazard United (now Portmore United) in the 2002-03 season, Harbour View in 2006-07, and Tivoli Gardens in 2008-09.
Hyde’s first order of business at Dunbeholden will be the Concacaf Club Championship, which is set to begin later this month.
Simmonds pointed out that they will be banking on Hyde’s experience to lead them to a successful campaign.
“Right on the horizon for us is the Caribbean Cup, which starts on the 23rd of August against Harbour View here in Kingston, and so Hyde is the coach that we think can help us to do well in this competition that will be broadcast around the Caribbean and North and Central America.
“It will be a good platform to showcase both the skills of the players and talent of the team because he has already garnered the respect of the management staff and players, and so we are very happy to have him here,” Simmonds said.
Hyde, who for years has had tremendous success as a schoolboy coach, led Clarendon College to a dominant 2022 season, winning the rural area daCosta Cup and the all-island Olivier Shield. He also masterminded the All daCosta All-Star to victory over their All Manning counterparts.
