Tipsters to Crime Stop pocket $10.3 million in 2025, says PIOJ

KINGSTON, Jamaica—Tipsters to Crime Stop were paid a total of $10.3 million in 2025 when compared to the $7.5 million paid out in 2024.

At the same time, total arrests increased by 38.2 per cent to 76, as documented in the 2025 edition of the Economic and Social Survey Jamaica, a publication of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ).

According to the publication, the number of tips received by Crime Stop was 809, a 6.7 per cent reduction when compared to prior year. Those tips resulted in 76 arrests, an increase on 38.2 per cent over 2024 figures.

Additionally, the police seized 630 rounds of ammunition based on tips. However, this was a 54.8 per cent reduction when compared to 2024. Crime Stop said the value of property recovered stood at $7.1 million, down $19.2 million from 2024.

Meanwhile, the value of narcotics seized was put at $36.9 million, an increase of $1.2 million from the previous year.

“These outcomes reflected the continued use of the programme as a mechanism for citizen engagement and operational support to policing efforts,” said the PIOJ in its assessment. It noted that support for law enforcement activities continued to be provided through the Crime Stop Programme, facilitated by public reporting and intelligence sharing.

“Compared with the previous year, there was variation in reporting levels and enforcement outcomes; however, arrests, seizures, and financial recoveries were recorded across several areas,” PIOJ said.

Crime Stop is a decades-old initiative of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica. It is an anonymous tip line and public partnership programmer that lets citizens share information safely to help fight crime, offering total privacy and cash rewards.
