Blackspyda seeking his piece of the musical pie
FORMER Jamaica Under-19 cricketer Frederick Wright, more commonly known on the entertainment scene as Blackspyda, is making steady strides towards etching his name in the musical scrolls of Jamaica through the avenue of producing.
A past student of St Jago High school, Wright’s first musical project was the creation of a mixed tape for fast rising dancehall artiste T’Nez. The mixed tape called Turn My Life Around was well recieved not only in Jamaica but also in the parts of United Kingdom and Canada.
After the mixed tape came the genesis of his Old Bring New riddim, which features artistes including Chedda, Wasp, Sustain, Mr G, T Nez, Demarco, Twins of Twins and others.
With a passion for music, Blackspyda — in a recent interview with the Observer — said that he could not subject himself solely to producing so he later teamed up with Chedda to voice the single Street Dreamz.
“I am armed with an exceptional talent for music and songwriting and I am ready to capture the hearts of dancehall and reggae fans worldwide and my wish is to be remembered as the ultimate reggae/dancehall icon,” a soft-spoken Blackspyda said.
The young producer, who has a calm demeanour, recently released his second riddim entitled Clublife. Clublife, he says is, already heading towards the spotlight as it features artistes such as Tony Matterhorn, with his single Dutty Wine Part 2; Aidonia, Navino, Deablo, Wasp, and Aisha Davis among others.
Blackspyda refers to his newest creation as a rhythm of peace as it also features a collaboration between former musical enemies Macka Diamond and Unicorn.
The two have set aside their musical differences and have combined their talents to record a second comination entitled Mi Hear Yuh.
What’s next for Blackspyda?
“Pursuing a career in music is filled with a mixture of sweat, blood and tears — it’s not easy. So for me it just a continuation of the musical journey that I have started several years ago. It will be more singles and other major musical projects. The world just needs to brace itself for Blackspyda,” he said.
