Live on the Waterfront for MoBay
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay will play host to yet another music festival. LIVE on the Waterfront will be held over four days, April 22-25 at Pier One, and will feature some of Jamaica’s biggest and best recording stars.
According to a release from the promoters, the event is a showcase of purely Jamaican music and will be broken down into the genres of reggae, dancehall, gospel and a party night.
LIVE on the Waterfront is the brainchild of LIVE Entertainment Group, which includes Jason Russell, Dwight Crawford and Richard Bennett — more popularly known as Charlie Chaplin.
Jason Russell of LIVE Entertainment says that the group really wanted to create an event that would attract visitors to the island.
“We wanted to create something authentic and an event that boasted our own music. This event will show off our music in fine style over the four nights and attract persons from overseas,” Russell said.
Performing at last Friday’s launch of the event at Pier One, Food Kartel had patrons in stitches with his witty lyrics flavoured with tasty Jamaican cuisine.
The patrons, who immediately acquired the taste of the first helping of the appetiser, Cook It Inna, savoured the remainder of the menu.
The appetite of the salivating crowd was appeased with concoctions of Brown Stew Fish, Hungry Cry, Thirteen Corn , Food Letter and more.
Food Kartel’s performance was preceded by that of veteran crooner Michael Buckley, who did one selection before leaving the stage.
Food Kartel will be one of the artistes on show on dancehall night at Live on the Waterfront.
On April 22, the show opens up with its Party Night featuring Byron Lee and the Dragonaires and Kurt Riley.
Reggae Night follows on April 23 and features performers such as Jah Cure, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Tarrus Riley, Charlie Chaplin, Brigadier Jerry and Josey Wales, among others.
On Dancehall Night, April 24, entertainers booked include Bounty Killer, Sizzla, I-Octane, Lady Saw, Busy Signal, Agent Sasco (Assassin), Genius, Khago, Food Kartel and Chino.
The festival comes to a close on April 25 with Gospel Night featuring the likes of Lieutenant Stitchie, Carlene Davis, Sandra Brooks, Goddy Goddy, DJ Nicholas, Prodigal Son and Ryan Berry and others.
