KINGSTON, Jamaica — Commissioner of Police George Quallo is stressing that during his tenure in office, emphasis will be placed on the prevention of crime and the beefing-up of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) intelligence apparatus.

The commissioner is currently making his first official presentation since taking the job as Jamaica’s chief constable.

According to the top cop, crime in all its many and varied forms is a curse on our nation. He further stated: “Crime reduces any competitive economic edge we might have and demotes the country’s standing among the nations of the world. It hinders growth and development. Crime inflicts pain and suffering on our people and it is clear that we the police must increase our efforts at taming this monster. Therefore, I will be seeking to develop a culture of proactive policing with a focus on crime prevention.

“Our intelligence capabilities must reflect the current demands. Simultaneously our analytical tools have to be upgraded to produce relevant and reliable information.

“I commit to ensuring that greater attention and resources are focused on the expansion and improvement of our intelligence machinery. I firmly believe that with better and more calculated intelligence, the quest for preventing crime will be enriched and will find expression in more coordinated and successful responses.”
