FIFA prosecutors want 4-year ban for Caribbean soccer leader

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) — FIFA ethics prosecutors have asked for Caribbean soccer leader Gordon Derrick to be banned for at least four years for financial offenses.

The judging chamber of the FIFA ethics committee says it opened a formal case against Derrick, the Caribbean Football Union president, based on the prosecutors’ final investigation report.Derrick, general secretary of Antigua and Barbuda’s soccer federation, was previously barred from standing last year in the CONCACAF region’s presidential election. Victory there would have made him a FIFA vice president. The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Derrick’s exclusion from the CONCACAF election imposed by the FIFA audit committee. The ethics committee says the latest case focuses on “alleged conflicts of interest, offering and accepting gifts and other benefits, mismanagement of funds, abuse of position and disloyalty.”
