Pregnant woman among five Haitians arrested in Manchester

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Five Haitians, including a pregnant woman, were arrested in Spring Ground, Christiana, Manchester, on Sunday morning during a police operation.

Acting ccommander for the Manchester police, Deputy Superintendent Luhas Daniels, said the Haitians were held during an early morning raid at a house based on intelligence regarding immigration breaches and a search for prohibited weapons.

“During a targeted operation in Spring Ground district of Manchester, the premises was searched, and five Haitians—four males, one female— were found at the premises. Their names are being withheld [pending] further investigations. They were all arrested and taken into custody for processing and further investigation,” he said.

No weapons were found at the premises.

Police said the Haitians were also medically examined.
