Fresh Take on Jamaican Cuisine Steals the Spotlight at Kuyah

Kingston’s culinary supremacy was on full display at Kuyah, one of the signature experiences of the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival (JFDF), held at the Festival Marketplace in downtown Kingston on Thursday, March 5.

The evening brought together chefs, food lovers and members of the capital’s social scene for a celebration of Jamaican cuisine presented through a contemporary lens. Across a series of tasting stations, chefs offered inventive interpretations of familiar favourites, blending traditional island flavours with refined techniques and thoughtful presentation.

Guests moved easily through the open-air venue sampling each dish, engaging with chefs and sharing reactions as they discovered new dimensions of flavours long embedded in Jamaican food culture. From elevated takes on street food classics to reimagined comfort dishes, the offerings reflected the creativity shaping the island’s evolving culinary landscape.

Adding a familiar Jamaican touch to the evening, Red Stripe complemented the bold spices and rich flavours showcased throughout the festival. Long associated with shared meals and celebrations across the island, the iconic beer paired naturally with the relaxed energy that defined the Kuyah experience.

The Festival Marketplace quickly filled with a lively mix of food enthusiasts, influencers, business leaders and creatives eager to experience the culinary showcase that has become a highlight of the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival calendar.

Music added another dimension to the evening as reggae artiste Jesse Royal delivered a spirited headline performance, bringing his signature sound to a crowd that moved seamlessly between tastings and the stage.

From culinary experimentation to cultural celebration, Kuyah once again demonstrated how Jamaican cuisine continues to push boundaries while remaining rooted in the flavours, traditions and shared experiences that define the island’s rich food culture.
