New Medellin to MoBay route to further increase Jamaica’s Latin American arrivals, says Bartlett

KINGSTON, Jamaica—Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has announced the expansion of air connectivity in Latin America with the introduction of a new direct air service between Medellín and Montego Bay.

This service, operated by Wingo Airlines, is set to begin on June 23, 2026, further solidifying Jamaica as a prime destination for Colombian travellers.

“Today marks a significant step in enhancing Jamaica’s tourism strategy,” said Bartlett. “This new route not only responds to the growing interest from Colombian travellers but also reinforces our commitment to increasing connectivity and accessibility to Jamaica for visitors from Latin America.”

Flights will operate three times per week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—providing improved access for both leisure travellers and travel advisors.

With introductory base fares starting from US$159 one-way, inclusive of taxes and fees, tickets are already available through the airline’s official booking channels. Wingo plans to offer nearly 32,000 seats annually, establishing itself as the sole airline operating this non-stop connection.

“This is the fruit of our collective labour to expand routes in Latin America, which will diversify and expand our markets. It is indeed a victory for Jamaica and its longstanding partners who have worked to achieve this great outcome,” said Donovan White, director of tourism.

This new service builds on the momentum generated by the launch of the Bogotá – Montego Bay route, which begins operations on Tuesday, with the first two- weekly flights already scheduled to expand to three in June due to high demand.

Philip Rose, deputy director of tourism at the Jamaica Tourist Board, highlighted the strategic importance of this connectivity.

“The launch of the Bogotá service, together with the upcoming Medellín route, clearly demonstrates the increasing demand for Jamaica in Colombia and across Latin America. Strengthening air connectivity is essential to unlocking new markets and driving sustainable visitor growth,” said Rose.

Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s vice-president of commercial and network planning, remarked, “We are excited to expand our presence in Jamaica with this new route. It presents new opportunities for Colombians travelling to Jamaica as well as for Jamaicans looking to explore Colombia. The attractions in Medellín and beyond offer a vibrant experience for all travellers.”
