Worth The Wait

A 10-year journey of quiet devotion ensured that Geoncarlo Tomlinson and Adriana Allen’s road to the altar was never rushed, turning a long-standing friendship into a lifetime of love.

First meeting in downtown Kingston in 2013, Geoncarlo and Adriana were merely professional acquaintances navigating the same urban circuit. While Geoncarlo, a seafood salesman on Luke Lane, was quickly smitten — Adriana, who operated an eatery on nearby Hayward Street, remained unswayed by his early overtures. “He’d say he had feelings for me, but I wasn’t interested — not until I started buying fish from him!” Adriana shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

Their professional bond evolved over a decade into a close-knit friendship. Beyond the routine business exchanges, a deeper alignment formed. Geoncarlo proved to be Adriana’s rock during the turbulence of a past break-up, and the seeds of a deeper connection were sown.

In October 2023, the tides turned. Fresh from a trip to Canada, Geoncarlo initiated a ‘full-court press’, finally admitting he had a crush on Adriana for 10 years. That confession prompted a profound shift in Adriana’s heart. Soon after they began dating, the steady camaraderie they had shared for years turned into love.

“My attraction to him only intensified with every shared moment,” Adriana said.

They made it official as a couple in January 2024.

Adriana knew she found her soulmate during a family gathering in St Ann, with Geoncarlo by her side. Despite his palpable nerves, Geoncarlo did more than just win over the extended family, he secured a glowing endorsement from Adriana’s grandmother, Coral McDonald Johnson. Even Adriana was struck by how quickly they bonded. “When I realised my grandma had already been won over by him, I couldn’t help but ask ‘But Grandma, you’ve only just met him — how can you say you love him already?’” Adriana recalled with a laugh. “But spending that time together with my family allowed our love to flourish in a way I hadn’t expected.”

When Geoncarlo prepared to depart for Canada in 2025 under the Farm Workers’ Programme, he knew he couldn’t leave without a definitive commitment.

“He told me, ‘I am going away, but this is exactly where I am coming back to. We are going to build a life together,’” Adriana told TSV.

Distance proved no obstacle for the couple culminating with Geoncarlo proposing to Adriana in August 2025. “He told me that ‘I am going to marry you when I return and I want you to choose a ring,’” Adriana said. “I was so overwhelmed by happiness that I said yes!”

On January 31, 2026, at Kingston’s Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ, Adriana and Geoncarlo exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony. Dressed in a mermaid-style gown, Adriana walked up the aisle to Perfect by Ed Sheeran. Escorted by maid of honour Dione Baker, the bride proceeded towards the altar to join her awaiting groom.

With Pastor Romano Willis officiating, the pair pledged their future to one another.

The newly-weds honeymooned at the Ocean View Beach Hotel in Ocho Rios.
