JAAA dismisses reports that payment of travel tickets forced Oblique Seville to withdraw from World Relays team

KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is dismissing reports that a dispute between the association and Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville, surrounding the price of his tickets, forced the athlete to withdraw from Jamaica’s team to the World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.

“There was never an impasse between agents acting on behalf of Oblique Seville and the JAAA regarding payment for travel tickets. There was an issue regarding the earliest date that he could return to Miami in order to meet a contractual obligation.

His agent was advised that the earliest possible date on available flights, that would allow him to return to Miami, was on May 5, 2026, after midday. We therefore could not guarantee an earlier return,” the JAAA said in a press release.

The association said on April 21, it received a written notice from Oblique’s manager, Norman Peart, of the withdrawal of Oblique Seville from the World Relays Team, and “wishing the team all the best in qualification for the world championships and Mr Seville continues to be available for the 4 x 100m all being well.”
