KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police have arrested and charged a Canadian couple who was caught attempting to smuggle ganja and hashish in pineapples.

The two have been identified as 49-year-old Wayne Lewis and his wife 37-year-old Nadine Lewis, both of Ontario, Canada. 

According to reports from the Narcotics Police, the woman was held at the Norman Manley International Airport last Wednesday while preparing to board a flight destined for Toronto, Canada.

She was detained after a routine check of her luggage revealed six pineapples stuffed with ganja weighing about 12.11 pounds and hashish, weighing about two pounds.

The lawmen say that further investigations led them to a property in Norbrook, Kingston where her husband was seen. A search of the room he occupied revealed an additional quantity of ‎ganja and hashish.

Both were subsequently charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking preparatory steps to export ganja. They are scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday.
