NHT employees to return to work tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The more than 800 unionised employees of the National Housing Trust (NHT) who took industrial action today, are expected to resume tomorrow.
Spokesman for the NHT Staff Association, Garfield Harvey, told OBSERVER ONLINE that over 800 employees of the Trust who are members of the staff association, an affiliate of the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU), either stayed home or turned up for work but did no work.
The strike greeted new Minister of Labour and Social Security Dr Fenton Ferguson on his first day at his new office.
An emergency meeting was called this morning, at which an agreement was reached for a full resumption of work at 7:30 am tomorrow, and a resumption of conciliation at the ministry on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
