ORANGE Hill defeated Waterford Cricket Club by eight wickets in the final of the 2014 Supligen/Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Power Play 10/10 cricket championship at Three Hills in St Mary on Sunday.

The Westmoreland parish champions pocketed the $100,000 winners’ prize along with the championship trophy, while Waterford CC from Portmore received $50,000 for finishing second. Scores: Waterford CC 98/4 from 10 overs; Orange Hill 101/2 off 7 overs.

Batting first, Nicoy Lindo topscored with a well-played half-century of 56 for Waterford CC, smashing two fours and five big sixes off a mere 32 deliveries.

No other batsman got into double figures as Waterford CC posted what appeared to be a challenging total. Ewan Andrews took 2-10, and Myron Wilson 1-13 for Orange Hill.

In reply, needing to score just under 10 runs-per-over to win, Orange Hill reached the target with 18 balls to spare. Jason Thompson led the successful run chase with a superb half-century of 57 from 26 balls, which contained five fours and four sixes.

His aggressive brother Adrian Thompson, who was named Man-of-the-Match, blasted 42 not out from a mere 12 deliveries.

His knock included four fours and as many sixes to seal the deal for Orange Hill against Christopher Halstead, who finished with 1-22, and Paul Harrison, 1-24. The Portmore-based GC Foster took third place after defeating Boscobel CC from St Mary by five runs in the early game at the same venue.

Taking first strike in a game reduced to five overs, GC Foster made 99-1. Captain Gavin Wallace topscored with 40 not out, which contained two fours and as many sixes off a mere 16 balls, Ransford Henry added 24 and Odane Vassell chipped in with 21 against Horace Whitehorn, who finished with 1-17.

In reply, Herman Henry, 53 (18 balls), laced with four fours and six sixes, and Alwayne Williams, 20 not out, weren’t enough against Ransford Henry, 1-8, and Oshane Clayton, 1-19, as Boscobel were restricted to 94-2 from their allotted five overs.
