Prisoner found dead in police lock-up
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Detectives from the Black River Criminal Investigations Brach are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a male prisoner who was found unconscious in his cell at the Black River police lock-up in St Elizabeth on Tuesday.
He has been identified as 26-year-old Roshane Baker of Lacovia, St Elizabeth and Golden Heights in Denham Town, Kingston 14. He was charged with murder and was remanded in custody.
Reports are that about 5:45 am, police officers were alerted to Baker’s cell, where he was found lying on the ground; he was unresponsive and had what appear to be stab wounds to his body. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The matter is being investigated by the Inspectorate of the Constabulary and Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
