Tarrant High student serves JCF as SSP for a day
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Eighteen-year-old Shanna-Kay Morgan was all smiles when she arrived at the Half Way Tree Police Station yesterday to fill the role of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for the St Andrew Central Division for the day.
The move, according to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), is in keeping with ongoing activities for the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Police Week.
“My inspiration for becoming SSP for the day is that when I see the officers in their uniform, working, doing their duties, protecting the citizens and serving the nation, it gives me the drive to participate in what they are doing to help build our communities and Jamaica, to make it better and safer for all,” said Morgan.
Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Division Millicent Sproul-Thomas greeted Morgan and took her on a tour of areas within the Division. They also visited students of Tarrant High School.
SSP Sproul-Thomas was elated to have Morgan on board and hopes that other students can be empowered by the work of the police and one day serve their country, CCU reported.
“I am happy to have Shanna-Kay. Often times, the general public only see us as Police officers with guns, but there is another side to us and I hope that Shanna-Kay being here with us will inspire many of our young persons and help them to build a better partnership with the members of the Force,” said SSP Sproul Thomas.
The JCF is celebrating Police Week between November 22-28 under the theme “Promoting Transparency in the Face of Adversity”.
