Transport Authority road licence-offer closes January 13
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Transport Authority is today reminding prospective operators of public transportation vehicles that the special offer of 5,719 road licences will close on Friday, January 13.
According to the Authority, the offer, which was made on November 1, last year, included 435 hackney carriages, 200 rural stage carriages, 5034 route taxis, 50 contract carriages and 20 newly-created routes, and was geared at satisfying the increasing demand for public transportation services in Jamaica.
In the meantime, the Authority is advising people who have taken advantage of the special offer and who qualify for the three-month waiver of road licences fees that, they will receive two road licences.
The first will be issued upon approval and will expire on March 31, 2017. The second, which expires March 31, 2018, will be issued upon expiration of the first licence and will be at no additional cost. These licensees will, however, be required to submit the first road licence in order to receive the road licence which expires on March 31.
In addition, the Transport Authority is also urging individuals operating public transportation services without the requisite road licences to ensure that they legalise their services to avoid prosecution.
