KINGSTON, Jamaica – Despite the rainfall experienced in some sections of the island over the last few weeks and the easing of water restrictions in some areas, the National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that the Prohibition Notice issued in July of this year is still in effect.

NWC said Wednesday that the water restrictions for some communities will continue, especially for those on the Mona/Hope systems, because much of its operations continue to be impacted.

In a news release, NWC said even though the Constant Spring/Hermitage system experienced significant bolstering with recorded 100 per cent in dam levels, there was less than impressive rainfall in St Mary, St Thomas, Portland, and St Ann, and as such the water supply regimes implemented in these parishes will also continue as previously advised.

Customers are therefore urged to continue to store water and to conserve on their use of it.

The company also advised that, while it will continue to monitor the situation across the country, its plans to introduce new supply systems and carry out rehabilitative works on existing systems in St Mary and St Thomas would proceed as planned.

The news release said work on the replacement well at Iter Boreale, and testing of the Golden Grove Well in St Mary, is well advanced, along with the testing of the Winchester Well in St Thomas.
