Steele strike keeps H’View ahead of DPL pack

Harbour View continued their impressive second round form by beating title-holders and first round champions Tivoli Gardens 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Complex in the Digicel Premier League last evening.

It was the third straight win and fifth from eight second round matches for the ‘Stars of the East’.

Conversely, the Tivoli team which was suffering their first defeat in the round, dropped points for the sixth game in the round.

Harbour View took the lead against the run of play through Andre Steele in the 17th minute.

John Ross Edwards had stolen the ball from Steve Green on the left side of the 18-yard box to find Steele, who turned his marker and finished high into the left corner.

Tivoli had dominated the early proceedings, but Harbour View goalkeeper Dwayne Miller did well to deny Keammar Daley and Dane Kelly in the sixth and 10th minutes.

Tivoli had dominated the early proceedings, but Harbour View goalkeeper Dwayne Miller did well to deny Keammar Daley and Dane Kelly in the sixth and 10th minutes.

Harbour View should have scored more goals in the second half, but Tivoli goalkeeper Julian McLeish came up trumps.

McLeish twice produced spectacular saves to deny Ranique Muir in the 62nd and 73rd minutes.

Jermaine Hue, clearly Harbour View’s best player in the game, should have doubled their lead in the 79th minute, but dragged his shot wide right from 12 yards with only McLeish to beat.

Tivoli came closest to levelling the score at 1-1 in time added, but Miller rose high at his near post to push away Christopher Jackson’s inswinging free-kick from the right flank.
