Teenage girl, man remanded on gun charges
WESTERN BUREAU: Nineteen -year-old Triciana “Tracy” Brown and Christopher Davis, who were charged jointly with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent, were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Western Regional Gun Court on Wednesday.
The two will next return to Court on February 7, when the matter will again come up for mention.
Brown and Davis were arrested and charged following an alleged shootout between gunmen and the police in Westmoreland last month.
According to the police, at about 7:50 pm on January 12, the two were among four persons in a white Toyota Corolla motor car that was travelling along Great George’s Street in Savanna-la-Mar.
Reports are that the police signalled the driver to stop, but he disobeyed and proceeded to drive towards Maylers Street. The police reportedly gave chase and the occupants of the vehicle allegedly opened fire on the lawmen, who then returned the fire.
During the ensuing gun battle, which lasted for more than 30 minutes, one of the police service vehicles suffered damages to the left fender and front windscreen.
When the shooting subsided, one of the occupants of the car, Livingston Hibbert, was found with gunshot wounds to the upper section of the body, while Brown was found in the back of the car with a wound to her left middle finger.
A 1.380 semi automatic pistol with its serial number erased, along with four live rounds, was allegedly found in the vehicle.
Hibbert and Brown were taken to the Savanna-la-Mar General Hospital where Hibbert was pronounced dead and Brown was treated and taken into custody.
Two days later, Davis was picked up by the police in the Savanna-la-Mar area and was subsequently arrested and charged.
