Trelawny Infirmary gets help
FALMOUTH, Trelawny
The 63 residents and patients at the Trelawny Infirmary here will benefit from a joint donation of a 10-burner industrial stove, a refrigerator, a coffee percolator and other utensils by Friends of the Infirmary and the Ministry of Local Government.
The Friends of the Infirmary – made up of local
and international residents – in a joint effort with
the Local Government Department provided the stove and refrigerator.
Icy Allen, who has been the matron at the facility for
the past decade, expressed
her profuse gratitude to
the donors.
“I am very grateful for the input of the Friends of the Infirmary, the minister of Local government and the office of the Prime Minister. I am grateful for what they are doing to assist with the upkeep of the infirmary which provides care for senior citizens of the parish, street people and the mentally ill,” Matron Allen declared.
She reserved special gratitude for the Catholic Church community which, in a display of benevolence, also donated some of the items.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Board of Supervision, Carol Anthony is equally thankful.
“I feel good because they (residents) are here as wards of the state. They are like children again. For each home, each child has two parents, the government being one part of one parent and the wider community, which is the friends being the other part,” she said.
The body of the Board of Supervision – which has overall responsibility for all Poor Relief Departments, including infirmaries-presently falls under the local Government Department which falls under the umbrella of the Prime Minister’s Office.
