MoBay mayor to open int’l drug confab today

MONTEGO BAY, St James

Mayor of Montego Bay, Charles Sinclair will today open a top-level forum aimed at improving drug treatment at the municipal level between cities of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean at the Iberostar Hotel in this resort city.

A slew of drug treatment experts drawn from 15 European and Caribbean states are expected to participate in the two-day conference which is part of the European – Latin American and Caribbean three-year initiative funded by the European Union.

According to the organisers, the project aims to create partnerships among cities in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean to exchange best quality practices in drug treatment and rehabilitation.

Under the theme, “local diagnostic studies and information systems in drug treatment”, the international experts will consider plans for preparing needs assessments at the local level, and for collecting data that can inform evidence-based policies on the treatment and rehabilitation of substance abusers.

Today’s confab is one of a series of activities, organised by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission, Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the Organisation of American States under the European-Latin American and Caribbean Drug Treatment

City Partnerships.
