Findlay stars with ball at Trial game
SHAWN Findlay wrecked the middle order of Tamar Lambert’s XI to reassert his all-round prowess on yesterday’s final day in the second cricket trial game at the Melbourne Oval to select Jamaica’s squad for the upcoming regional fourday competition next month.
David Bernard Jr’s XI won by and innings and 89 runs after replying with 473 to Lambert XI’s first-innings score of 182.
Resuming on 70 for one from day three, Lambert’s XI started positively with Danza Hyatt and Donavan Pagon, but lost wickets regularly thereafter and were eventually bowled out for 202 in the post-lunch session. Zeniffe Fowler was the lone batsman to fall the day before.
Hyatt made his first 50 of the Trial series before he was dismissed by the hardworking pacer Andre Russell for 54.
Pagon was bowled by Findlay for 45, while Lambert also went to the bowling of Findlay for 18.
The lively medium-pacer also accounted for the wickets of Carlton Baugh Jr (25), Nikita Miller (13) and Daren Powell (one) to finish with five for 28 off 12 tidy overs.
Leg spinner Odean Brown snared two for 56 off 19 overs and three balls, while Russell and Ricardo Dacres finished with a wicket each. The other wicket to fall was that of out-of-favour West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds, who was run out for seven.
Players and coaches alike will now turn their attention to the third and final Trial game which begins on Friday, also at Melbourne Oval.
