STETHS striker tipped for Golden Boot Award

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Barring the greatest scoring display in a daCosta Cup final in years, St Elizabeth Technical’s Deshorn Brown will win the Golden Boot Award for the competition’s topscorer this year.

Brown, who scored twice against Garvey Maceo High in Saturday’s 3-1 in the semifinal, leads the official tally with nine goals — three more than Manchester High’s Jason Johnson, the only player who can realistically overtake him with just one game left to be played.

Johnson would have to score at least four goals and hope his defence can keep Brown from scoring to take the trophy.

For the purpose of the award, the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association, organisers of the competition, recognises just the goals scored from the Inter-zone round through to the final.

Brown, who will turn 19 years old next month, has scored a total of 24 goals this season, and along with Denmark Gillings, has been the mainstay of the STETHS offence all season.

The 11th grader is in his fourth daCosta Cup season.
