Arnett, Rivoli share spoils
THE Digicel Premier League’s top scorer Devon Hodges notched his 11th goal of the season and enabled Rivoli to earn a 1-1 draw with Arnett Gardens at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
Veteran striker Kevin Wilson had given home team Arnett Gardens a 55th minute lead as his left-footed freekick took a deflection and beat the diving Leon Goffe in goal.
But that lead lasted only 10 minutes as national striker Hodges showed why he is the deadliest marksman in the league, as he turned and fired home from just inside the box, following a long ball played over his shoulder.
A point for each team means Arnett remained seventh spot on 19 points and player/coach Fabian Davis thought they should have all three points.
“We definitely should have come away with three points this evening. We created numerous chances in the game. All we needed to do was put away our chances,” said Davis.
St Catherine-based Rivoli United stayed in ninth place with 17 points after battling to their eighth draw of the season.
“In the end we did enough to feel that we could have come away with a win today after we scored. We seemed a little bit stronger than Arnett in the latter part of the game,” said Rivoli head coach Bradley Strewart.
In other results, Boy’s Town clipped Humble Lions 2-1 at Collie Smith Drive, while it was 0-0 between Portmore United and Village United at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
