Cornwall College return to action in KFC basketball
WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — Double defending champions Cornwall College will return to action in the ISSA/KFC Western Conference high school boys’ basketball championships today after a three-week break when they travel to Wakefield to face Muschett High in both the Under-19 and Under-16 sections.
Cornwall College have won all three game sin the Under-16 section and are tied in second place on six points behind leaders Herbert Morrison and William Knibb and are in third place in the Under-19 with seven points form four games.
Herbert Morrison, who have won all six games, lead the Under-19 section, while William Knibb are in second place on eight points.
Meanwhile, Herbert Morrison High extend their lead in the Under-19 section on Friday after beating Mannings School 79-63 in a high scoring game played in Sav la Mar.
The win extended Herbert Morrison’s perfect record to six wins.
The Herbert Morrison Under-16 team also won 36-22 to sweep the double-header and moved into joint first on eight points, tied with William Knibb.
In the Under-19 game, Jervis Hamilton had a triple-double of 31 points, 30 rebounds and 11 steals along with seven assists and a blocked shot for the winners who led 17-15, 34-28 and 53-41, respectively, at each break.
Jamoi Richards also had 31 points, eight assists and seven steals for Herbert Morrison, while Rodeine Reid scored 10 points and had 13 rebounds.
Troy Reid led Mannings with 19 points including three three-pointers, Ruel Gordon the school’s daCosta Cup goalkeeper had 17 points, while Adrian McCallum scored 14 points.
In the first game, David Brown’s game-high 13 points helped pushed Herbert Morrison to their third win as after being tied at 5-5 after the first quarter, the Montego Bay school led 12-8 at the half-time break after restricting the home team to just three second-quarter points.
Javed Hines scored nine points for Herbert Morrison and got 11 rebounds while Jordan Lewis scored eight points to lead Mannings.
