Legends, Wizards in FLOW basketball final
MAJESTY Gardens Legends and Tivoli Wizards advanced to the final of the National Basketball League (NBL) powered by FLOW, after winning game two of their semi-final to take the best-of-three series 2-0 at the National Stadium courts on Saturday night.
Majesty Gardens held off a late fightback from outgoing champion Urban Knights to win 85-83, while Tivoli cruised to a 74-59 victory over the Manchester Pythons in their match-up at Belair.
At the Stadium courts, Kemar McLeish of Majesty Gardens led with a gamehigh 30 points and he was wellsupported by Boldon Todd with 21 points and eight rebounds and Vinton Brown with 14 points.
Javon Bailey was the Knight’s topscorer with 25 points, while Andy Smith followed with 20 points and six assists.
The Legends dominated the game for three quarters. They led 21-17 after the first quarter, and 39-33 at half-time. However, at the end of the third period, they stretched their advantage to 13 points, after leading by 19 points at one stage.
Urban Knight coach Calvin Martin conceded that the better team won.
“I think they are the better team right now, and they are on top of their game now, so congrats to them.
His counterpart, Marlon Nattie, said it was a good game for his team up to the last five minutes of play.
“We got complacent and figured the game was won already.. but we did well,” he said.
At Belair, Jeffrey Brown scored 26 points and Anthony Farquharson 15 points to lead Tivoli to victory against the Pythons. Damion Sullivan topscored for Pythons with 15 points and Earldon Smith supported with 12 and nine rebounds.
Tivoli led 32-25 at the half and 54-38 at the end of the third quarter.
Game one of the final is set for Thursday at the National Stadium courts.
