Second million dollar winner embracing cash with a cool head
MILLICENT Miller, the second milliondollar winner in the Million Dolla Mawnin’ Competition, believed she had won a mere $20,000 on November 27, when she was notified that she had won something after texting in a code number from one of several bottle caps she had in her possession. She soon learned that her cash prize was a lot more, 50 times more to be precise.
Million Dollar Mawnin is the under-the-crown promotion by Red Stripe. With one purchase of Red Stripe, Red Stripe Light, Guinness, Heineken & Smirnoff Ice, consumers have a chance to win prizes, including cell phones, and up to a million dollars in cash.
The 46-year-old Miller, who is from Mount Ogle district in St Andrew, is not allowing the million-dollar prize to get to her head. Even with Christmas approaching she is not thinking of spending any of her money on gifts. “I never even thought of that,” she said. After a moment of thought she conceded that she might consider buying a television and getting a pair of tested glasses, things she actually needs.
She reveals that when she realised that she won the million dollars she was excited ,but not for too long. She says she realised that she had to remain calm. After all, it takes a cool head to make important decisions, like what to do with so much money.
“I am thinking about investments and securities,” she said. “I am starting a business in the new year.” The money, she said, also puts her in good stead to provide her daughter — a third form student at Immaculate High School — with the resources she needs to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer. She also wishes it could do more. “If I could buy a house I would,” she said.
She said she only entered the draw after hearing an advertisement on Irie FM saying it was the last chance to enter so she chose a number from several caps she had. She had little expectation of winning because she entered last year as well but luck was not on her side then. “My luck has changed this year,” she said.
