Bravo earns boost in ICC rankings

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — Dwayne Bravo’s robust performance for West Indies in the second Test against Australia has earned the Trinidadian a boost in the latest ICC Player Rankings.

Bravo is up two places to No 6 on ICC all-rounders’ list and also gained in the batting rankings, along with his captain Chris Gayle.

Among his telling performances in the drawn second Test that ended Tuesday, Bravo struck his third Test century, 104 in the first innings and his three-wicket burst on the final day threatened to vault West Indies to an upset win over the fancied Australians.

South African Jacques Kallis remains the No 1 all-rounder ahead of New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, followed by Australian Mitchell Johnson, Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) and Stuart Broad (England).

Bravo, up five places to No 40, also climbed in the

batting ratings.

With a magnificent second innings 165 not out, Gayle became the first West Indies captain to carry his bat in a Test innings and is up six places to No 22 on the batting list.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul slipped two places to 10th after scores of 62 and 27 in the Adelaide Test.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, down two spots to 24th, is the only other West Indian appearing among the top 30 batsmen.

Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since October 2002 after scores of 36 and 20 in Adelaide.

Meanwhile, India’s opener Virender Sehwag stormed into the ICC’s top five batting list after scoring a superb double-century against Sri Lanka in the third Test in Mumbai.

Sehwag shares fifth with Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf, while India’s Gautam Gambhir retains pole position ahead

of Sri Lankans Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, with Australian Michael Clarke at No 4.

South Africa’s fast bowler Dale Steyn holds on to the top bowling spot ahead of Australia’s Mitchell Johnson with Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan third.

Injured pacers Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards, 18th and 26th, are the only West Indies bowlers among the top 30.
