Village on fire in Trelawny KO final
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Two goals each from Delroy Ellis and Shavar Campbell propelled Premier League side and defending champions Village United to a moral-boosting 7-0 win over Spicy Hill in the final of the Trelawny Football Association’s Dr Patrick Harris Knock-out at the Elliston Wakeland Centre on Thursday.
The win was the first for coach Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis who retuned to the club two weeks ago to take over the struggling club after Cassman Williams who had taken over late last season, is suffering from a neck injury.
Despite the loss, Spicy Hill will accompany Village to the Jamaica Football Federation’s Flow Champions Cup all-island Knock-out, next year. With Village’s spot in the Knock-out assured as a Premier League team, the next best placed team will also take part.
Village, who are 10th in the 12 team Digicel Premier League, led 3-0 at half-time through Teofore Bennett in the 26th minute, Orlando McBayne two minutes later and Kenardo Wilson in the 45th scored.
Ellis made it 4-0 in the 51st minute, while Campbell added a fifth in the 54th.
Campbell grabbed his second in the 70th minute, while Ellis completed the scoring in the 90th minute.
